New York's mobile sports betting market continues to strengthen in the first week of December 2022. In a recent report, the sector's regulator, the New York State Game Commission, said digital sportsbooks posted their highest gross game revenue in the week since the legalization of offering for the week ended December 11, 2022.

Empire State began its online sports betting activities on January 8, 2022, and a total of nine gamblers can bet digitally. Despite being a relatively new market, it quickly became the busiest regulatory market in the U.S. and has already generated more than $15 billion in online betting handles.

For the week ending Dec. 11, 2022, the New York State Game Board reported that nine sports books generated a total of $342.6 million in bets. However, it was a headline-grabbing total game revenue because it was $44.5 million. So it broke the state's weekly record after mobile sports betting became legal.

Since the first week of December, weekly GGR trading volume has increased by nearly 40% from the previous week. The operator holding ratio is about 13%, the third-highest weekly gain since market launch. After a 51% tax rate on sports betting revenue, the state will receive approximately $22.7 million in tax revenue during the week.

Despite the weekly record, operators' rankings remained unchanged in the first week of December 2022, with FanDual and DraftKings taking strong control of the segment. The two sportsbooks accounted for 73.4% of the sector's total weekly trading volume and about 76.6% of the sector's total weekly gaming revenue during the aforementioned week.

During the week, Panduel led the chart again, with the bookmaker posting its biggest betting handle at $141.1 million. This is down 7% from the previous week. The operator posted a 9.5% improvement to a GGR of $20.8 million. Meanwhile, the second DraftKings posted a handle of $110.3 million and revenue of $13.3 million.

After an impressive October 2022, the state's mobile sports betting market resumed its strength in November. During that month, nine sports books recorded $1.55 billion in handling. For operators, they have 9.5% of the total game revenue, which translates into $148.2 million. These figures broke the GGR's previous record in a month.

New York Rep. J. Gary Pretlow, a leading advocate of legalizing mobile sports betting, shared several plans for the sector. He wants to see sports where betting people bet on customer phone lines as well as more mobile operators in 2023. The increase in sports books will allow the state to lower tax rates, which is welcome news for game companies.
